Voices of THE Omniverse: Nine Seven PTA on Nostalgia, Creativity & Independent Artistry

Exclusive Interview on Voices of THE Omniverse

In this episode of Voices of The Omniverse, we sit down with Justin Ciuzio, better known as Nine Seven PTA—a director, producer, and recording artist whose work fuses nostalgia with raw storytelling. His latest project, Still Outside, isn’t just an album—it’s an experience.

“I wanted it to feel like an ‘80s coming-of-age movie,” Justin explains. “Like looking out on top of a mountain with your college jacket on, thinking, ‘Man, I can’t believe life is really happening.’”

Staying True in a Digital World: Art Over Trends

In an industry driven by algorithms and trends, Justin refuses to compromise artistic integrity. “You have to learn the game without letting it dictate your art,” he says. “I see artists doing handstands in the frozen food aisle just to get streams… but I’d rather let my music speak for itself.”

Despite the pressure to conform, he sees a shift happening: “Artistry is back at the forefront,” he says. “We’re moving away from 25-track albums stuffed with filler and back to 12, 14, 15 cohesive tracks. That’s the music I’ve always wanted to make.”

Sound Meets Vision: The Cinematic Approach to Music

For Justin, music and visuals are inseparable. “Sometimes a song plays in my head like a movie

before I even record it,” he says. “Other times, I’ll be editing a video and realize it’s shaping the way I hear the track.”

That approach extends to his DIY-style filmmaking, where he embraces imperfection. “Man, do I thrive on imperfection,” he laughs. “I try to mix a perfect song, and then I realize… I’m just not good at mixing! But that’s part of it. I aim for these grand, larger-than-life soundscapes, but at the end of the day, it’s just me in my bedroom, making music on FL Studio with two speakers and no subwoofer.”

The Meaning of Still Outside

At its core, Still Outside is about resilience. “It means still moving, still pushing, still here,” Justin explains. “It’s a statement. No matter what happens, I’m still outside, still creating.”
